This tutorial will show you how to manage your moreal game servers’ configuration files through FTP (file transfer protocol). FTP allows you to transfer files between your game server and personal computer and vice versa. First you will need to obtain a simple FTP program such as ws_ftp which can be found on our download page www.moreal.org/mfiles.php. For this article I will be using the ws_ftp found on our files page.

The first time you open ws_ftp you will be prompted with the ‘session properties’ screen which can be seen in the screenshot below.

Hostname – Your server IP address (without the :27015)
Username – The username provided to you by moReal.
Password – The password provided to you by moReal.
Save Pwd – Check this option to save your password.

Once you enter all of your information, hit “Apply” then OK. After hitting the “OK” button the program will now attempt connecting to your server. After connecting to your server you will see the listing similar to the screenshot below.

The left list is files on your personal computer while the right list is files on your counter-strike:source gaming server. First you will want to probably create a folder on your local system as I have done here creating the folder “FTP Test”, this way you can store all of your files in one location. Once you’re ready double click on the cstrike directory which will bring up the file listing below.

Now that we are into the cstrike directory we now have broader access to more important areas. This tutorial will cover two basic things from this point on, maps & configuration files. In order to add maps to your server simply enter the Maps directory in the right list (shown above) then in the left list navigate to the place where you stored the map you want to upload. Then simply drag the map from your left list and drop it on the right list, it’s as simple as that.

When it comes to updating or adding configuration files, all of these files are stored in the CFG folder (as seen above). Adding/uploading files would work the same way as explained above. If you would just like to edit the files, simply download all the files in the cfg folder (drag-and-drop) to your local computer (left list). Edit the files using a text editor (notepad for example) save the files then drag and drop them from your local computer back to the cfg folder on your game server. Before changes take effect please reboot your server.

Performance Tip:
One important aspect of your counter-strike:source servers performance is running some basic routine maintenance. We recommend deleting everything in your “LOG” folder occasionally to ensure that your server is running at its peak performance.
